Service animals, while they can be extremely beneficial and essential in some cases, are not considered an option for many families with children that have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Limitation and difficulties include: age specifications, severity of the disorder, family structure, long waitlists, and costs reaching upwards of $20,000. This can feel like a dead end for many families, but there should still be a way for a child with autism, or other developmental disorders, to receive the benefits that animals can provide for their health and wellbeing.

Petconnect would partner with local animal shelters to provide a sensory friendly adoption event that would help to raise awareness about animal interventions.
